Rust Radio

Rust Radio is an Internet radio station that broadcast live Neil Young music every weekend.

You can tune in if you have a DSL or cable Internet connection and can handle speeds of 16kb/s. Whenever the radio is online, you will see so on the right of the screen. Just click on of the icons to start the stream.

You can view a history of past broadcasts here. The SHOUTcast interface is here.

Tune in!

Whenever Rust Radio is online, a number of icons will appear on the right of the screen. Click on one of these icons to listen to Rust Radio.

If you cannot connect by clicking on an icon on the right, follow the instructions below. All these instructions come down to installing a media player and entering the Rust Radio stream URL: http://rustradio.org:8000

Winamp

For Windows, I recommend Winamp to listen to Rust Radio. You can download Winamp here. Install the program and start it. After you have started the program, hit the Ctrl and L buttons. This will open a "Open URL" screen:

Enter Rust Radio URL http://rustradio.org:8000 and press Enter or click the Open button.

Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player comes with Microsoft Windows. Most modern versions of Media Player should be able to play the Rust Radio stream. After starting Media Player, hit the Ctrl and U. This will open a "Open URL" screen:

Enter Rust Radio URL http://rustradio.org:8000 and press Enter or click the OK button.

iTunes

iTunes works on Mac OS X and Windows and can be downloaded here. After installing and starting the program, you press Apple and U on MacOS or Ctrl and U on Windows. This will open an "Open Stream" screen:

Enter Rust Radio URL http://rustradio.org:8000 and press Enter or click the OK button.

XMMS

For Linux, you can use XMMS to tune in. You can download it here. Hit Ctrl and L after startup and enter the Rust Radio URL http://rustradio.org:8000.

RealPlayer

You can also use RealPlayer to tune in to Rust Radio. You can download a free RealPlayer here. After installing and starting the program, hit Ctrl and O, this will open an "Open" screen:

cmus / mplayer

So, what's behind this Internet radio stream?

  • A big archive of Neil Young shows. All FLAC files, properly tagged and information stored in a MySQL database
  • Ices0 with FLAC support and custom Perl module picking shows and songs from the database
  • Shoutcast server, running on port 8000
